Introduction
------------
This is an unofficial patch for the commercial game NBA Live 08 by
EA Sports. It provides the game with data of new players who were not
originally in the game, and generally updates the rosters regarding
trades, free agents, injuries, positions, ratings, overall team
performance, jersey numbers, salaries and more.

Please note that this patch is not guaranteed to be compatible with all
other updates (particularly custom aiact.viv files). It has been tested
thoroughly to ensure there are no issues with the databases or files included
in the update. Before reporting any issues with this update, please make sure
there are no conflicts with other patches you have installed.

Installation
------------
To install the rosters, simply run install.exe.

The installation file should automatically detect folder where you've
installed NBA Live 08 (by default, this is C:\Program Files\EA Sports\NBA Live 08).
If the art does not appear to be installed properly, run a Windows search for
mijorda.fsh to see where the art files have been placed and move them to your
sgsm folder.

This patch includes updated team jerseys in .viv format. If you have any updated jersey
art in your sgsm folder, it will be loaded instead of the .viv files. If you're having
any problems with incorrect jerseys showing up (particularly those for Oklahoma City)
look for the jersey updates in your sgsm folder and remove them so that the data in the
.viv file is loaded instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------
Q: How do I install the patch?
A: Run install.exe.

Q: Will you send me the updates via email?
A: Sorry, no. You can always download the latest version from www.nba-live.com

Q: I have feedback about the roster, are you interested?
A: Of course. All corrections and suggestions can be emailed to me, or submitted via the NLSC Forum

Q: Will the patch affect my season in progress?
A: No, it will only provide an update for the default rosters which can then be used to begin
   a new Dynasty/Season

Q: Can I apply the patch to Dynasty/Season mode?
A: Not without losing season data. Technically it's possible to transfer some data over but the work
it would take is about the same as it would for me to create the patch in the first place! You can
overwrite the coaches.dbf and teamgear.dbf files in your season with the one from the roster update though.
No season data is stored there so it's safe to replace.

Q: When will you include (insert legend here)/(insert trade here)/(insert feature to update here)?
A: For trades, check the date of the release. If it didn't happen at the time of the release, it won't be in the
update. It will be in the next one, since that's the whole point of a roster update. ;) Legends will be included
whenever I can get the time and one of the talented patchmakers in our community can provide me with a cyberface
for him. I like to pack as much as I can into most updates but I don't always have the time.

Q: When will the next patch be released?
A: As soon as it's ready and not a moment sooner. ;) Check the NLSC news and the Next Release Date topic in the
NLSC Forum for approximate dates and progress reports.

Q: Why do you sometimes delay the patch?
A: I'm afraid my life doesn't revolve around the patch and sometimes I have other committments. I update the rosters
in my spare time and I don't always have much time do spare. I hate keeping everyone waiting as I've found there's
a lot of supportive and enthusiastic folks who use my rosters but my life has to come before a video game. I do my
best to make sure I release the best update possible so I'd rather take my time than rush out a release and then have
to make a bunch of corrections.

Q: Will this update work for the console versions?
A: No, sorry. It's for the PC only.

Q: Will you make updates for the console versions?
A: Again, no. Sorry. I have neither the time nor the hardware. But if anyone submits a file to the NLSC I'll be sure
to post it in the database.

Q: Will you maintain a text roster update?
A: I tried doing this once and found it very time consuming. So for the moment, I'll have to say no. Sorry.

Q: Which sliders work best with the NLSC roster?
A: The roster is designed to work with any slider settings.

Q: Can I use your rosters as a base for my own patch?
A: I handle this one on a case-by-case basis. If you want to use the rosters as part of a bigger patch, a special
mod for example, I might grant permission. If you want to create your own current roster update I'm afraid I have
to decline. I do put a lot of work into it so editing my ratings, making a few trades and releasing the patch as
your own is really taking a shortcut...and stings when I don't even get credit for the original work! ;) As a
common courtesy in the online NBA Live community you should always ask a patcher before modifying and redistributing
their work. If you have any plans for involving my roster in a project of yours, please talk to me about it first. :)

Q: What about modifying it for my own personal use?
A: Sure, that's fine. :)

Q: Can I use the NLSC update in my NBA Live online/simulation league?
A: Absolutely, and thanks for the vote of confidence! All I ask is that you credit me for the use of the rosters (so
folks know where you got 'em :) and link back to the NBA Live Series Center (www.nba-live.com) on your league's
   website.

Q: Do you use formulas to determine ratings?
A: Not really. I work in ranges rather than stats-to-ratings formulas as I feel they're a bit rigid. The only formula
I use is the simple Free Throw Percentage = Free Throw rating. For everything else, I work in ranges (ie. a rating
of 50-60 will determine certain simulated statistical and in-game performance). I find that this creates the best
balance between the stats simulation engine, in-game performance and the Freestyle Superstar abilities.

Q: Can you increase/decrease Player X's overall?
A: As a general rule, no. While the overall rating plays a role in trades it is somewhat of a superficial rating. It's
the individual ratings that do most of the work so it's important not to skew them simply to make an overall rating
"look better". But I usually find that upon reviewing and correcting ratings the Overall increases or decreases to
   a more accurate number.

Q: Which program do you use to edit NBA Live's DBF files?
A: DB Commander 2000, which can be downloaded from www.dbcommander.com. You can also use other DBF editors and in
a pinch Microsoft Access or Microsoft Excel, though it's easy to corrupt the databases with Access and Excel.

Q: How often should I run the Primacy Fix?
A: You should run the Primacy fix on a regular basis, particularly when players have suffered or recovered from
   an injury.
