CENTRAL POINT PC TOOLS PRO (VERSION 9)

  GENERAL UPDATE INFORMATION

  * When you run Install, configuration files for the
previous version are stored in the \PCTOOLS\OLDPCT
directory. For more information on these files and how
to restore them, see the Installing PC Tools Pro
chapter in your PC Tools Pro manual.

  * Desktop Accessories and Commute are not included in PC
Tools Pro. However, if these version 8 applications are
on your hard disk, they are retained by PC Tools Pro
Install and continue to launch from PC Tools
Desktop/Shell. If you delete PC Tools version 8
programs to free up disk space, you must retain Desktop
Accessories and Commute files if you want keep using
these programs. See the PC Tools Files chapter in your
version 8 manual for a list of applicable files.

  * Data Monitor (DATAMON), now called DPROTECT, takes up
less memory, and no longer includes Directory Locking,
Write Protection, or the Screen Blanker. Disk Light is
now a separate TSR. See the Data Monitor section of
     this file for more information.

  * Compress has been changed to Optimizer (OPTIMIZR) in PC
Tools Pro. A batch file has been provided to run the
appropriate program if you type COMPRESS at the command
     line.

  * For the most up-to-date information about new menu
items, command buttons, and dialog boxes, and about
features that might work differently than documented in
the manuals, press F1 in each PC Tools Pro application
     for online help.

  * For a list of command-line options, type /? after the
program name at the DOS prompt.

NOTES ON SPECIFIC PC TOOLS PRO PROGRAMS

  Central Point Anti-Virus
  ------------------------

  * For an explanation of the .INI file settings for Anti-
Virus, see the CPAV.TXT file in the \PCTOOLS\DATA
directory. This is an ASCII file and can be viewed or
     printed as needed.

  * When scanning a network server from the command line (using
/N or /P), you get no visual indicator when the program is
mapping the directory structure and it may appear locked.
Since network drives tend to be large, they take longer to
     process.

  * If you are using the Speedstar 24X Video Board, the
24XMODE.COM file changes each time it is executed. To
prevent verification alerts each time the driver is run,
add this file to your Verification Exceptions list.

  * When scanning drives that have been compressed with the
disk-compression utility SuperStor from AddStor, turn
off the Anti-Stealth option. On such compressed volumes,
files are compressed and decompressed dynamically, which
results in their checksums not matching. You may get
     unreliable verification errors.

  Central Point Backup
  --------------------

  * For an up-to-date list of tape drives that Central
Point Backup supports, see TAPEDRVS.TXT in the
     \PCTOOLS\DATA directory.

  * If you use Central Point Backup version 8.0 backup sets
with password protection, use the /V8PASS command-line
     option, as follows:

      C:\PCTOOLS\CPBACKUP.EXE /V8PASS

If you attempt to use the version 8.0 password-
protected backup set without this switch, the password
may not be accepted, even if it is entered correctly.

  * Make sure you close all applications (other than
CPTASK, Scheduler and Central Point Backup) before
performing a backup or confidence test. If you do not,
files that are in use by active applications will not
be backed up. This could result in compare errors,
confidence test errors, and, in the case of QIC tape
drive users, the inability to restore the backup.

  * If you manually change any of the settings of Central
Point Backup, such as backing up to drive B instead of
A, or reconfiguring for a tape drive, and want to
retain this information for future sessions, choose
Save As Default from the File menu.

  * If you use disk-caching software (such as SMARTDrive or
     PC-Kwik) while performing a medium-speed backup or
restore, turn off the delayed-write feature of the
cache program to prevent DMA conflicts. This applies to
SCSI backups and restores as well. PC-Cache requires no
changes. These caching programs can often affect
backups to floppy drives or tape drives connected to
the floppy controller. Turn off caching of drives A and
     B if you experience problems.

  * Do not back up to a compressed removable disk drive. If
you do, errors will occur. Instead, use Central Point
Backup's compression option to back up to a non-
     compressed removable disk drive.

  * Before you use Central Point Backup to back up a
DoubleSpace drive, run Microsoft's DOUBLESPACE /CHKDSK
/F to double-check the integrity of the DoubleSpace
     volume.

  * Central Point Backup is set by default to exclude
hidden and system files from every backup. Therefore,
if you back up a DoubleSpace, Stacker, SuperStor, or
other similar compressed drive, Central Point Backup
does not back up the CVFs (Compressed Volume Files),
since it is unnecessary to back up these files. If you
want to back up these files, choose Selection Options
from the Options menu, and deselect the Hidden
     Attribute and System Attribute options.

  * If you are backing up or restoring the bindery files
(and have sufficient rights to do so) of a Novell
network volume, they are automatically backed up or
restored, even though they are invisible on the
     directory tree.

  * When using CPS Tape format, incremental backups with
Data Encryption selected are not supported in this
     version of Central Point Backup.

  * Backup will not find Irwin/Archive 4100C (only applies
to the 'C' model) tape controllers set to factory-
default settings. (370-6-2). Try using 360-6-2 or 3E0-6-
2 by changing the jumper from pin B (for 370) to pin C
     (360) or D (3E0). Almost any setting that does not use
370 or DMA 2 will work.

  * If you use an Adaptec 1542C controller and are not
using factory default settings, you might see the
message "The adapter card could not be configured.
Initializing and resetting the card did not work." If
so, run the Adaptec setup program to reset the card to
the factory default settings, or add this line to your
     CONFIG.SYS file:

      DEVICE=C:\PCTOOLS\SYSTEM\ASPI4DOS.SYS

If you have any devices other than a tape drive
attached to the Adaptec 1542C card, modifying your
CONFIG.SYS file is the best solution. See the
ADAPTEC.TXT file in the \PCTOOLS\DATA directory for
more information on using Adaptec SCSI cards with
     Central Point Backup.

  * The ~PCACHE file has been added to the list of files
that Central Point Backup does not back up. Some
versions of the PCACHE program create files with the
.$$$ extension that may cause compare or restore
problems. To avoid this, exclude *.$$$ files in the
     Include/Exclude files list.

  CPR (Central Point Recuperator)
  -------------------------------

  * For more detail about CPR and specific limitations for
its use with Microsoft Windows and networks, see the
CPR.TXT file in your \PCTOOLS\SYSTEM directory.

  * While CPR is a great benefit to users concerned about
data loss, it does not guarantee recovery in all cases.
In our experience, it can recover work in progress - at
least to the point data files can be saved to disk - in
80-85% of the cases. When you recover a session, do not
simply proceed as though nothing happened. Immediately
save your work and then reboot your system to stabilize
the file structure on your PC. In addition, if CPR
determined that odds for recovery were less than
excellent, remember to run DiskFix before loading your
     applications again.

  * The first time you install and run CPR, test it to make
sure your recoveries will be successful. In both your
DOS and Windows sessions, do a trial save and restore
     session.

  * CPR Setup cannot install CPR if you are using MS-DOS 6
Multi-Config in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. To add CPR to a
Multi-Config file manually, see your MS-DOS
     documentation.

  * The CPR image file cannot be created on compressed
drives (e.g., DoubleSpace or Stacker) or on network
     drives located on the server.

  * If you have Delete Sentry enabled when you install CPR,
it might claim there is not enough space on your
uncompressed drive to save its image file, even though
DOS reports adequate free space. This is because Delete
Sentry saves information about deleted file's location,
but changes the path to the file in the File Allocation
Table, preventing DOS from finding it.

To make space available, make sure you retrieve any
deleted files you might want, then purge the deleted
     files in Undelete:

       1. From DOS, type Undel and press Enter.
       2. Choose Purge Deleted Files from the File menu.
       3. Select Delete Sentry.

  * Run CPR /SETUP again if you change your system hardware
or add a new disk volume. In fact, whenever you change
any part of your computer's configuration, reboot your
system to reset the CPR image file.

  * Do not load CPRLOW.EXE as a DEVICE HIGH statement
in your CONFIG.SYS file. This causes your system to
     reboot continuously.

  * If you are on a network or boot directly to Windows and
would like CPR to pause each time you boot for optional
recovery, insert CPR /ASK in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file,
immediately after the statement that loads your mouse
or the network IPX, whichever is later in the file. For
     example,

      C:\DOS\MOUSE
      C:\NET\IPX
      C:\PCTOOLS\CPR /ASK
      C:\NET\NETX
      C:\WINDOWS\WIN

  * CPR is not compatible with OnTrack Disk Manager, the
Spectrum/24 graphics card manufactured by SuperMac
     Technology, or Tiga video cards.

  * CPR identifies your computer video type by reading the
chipset, not by identifying the video board
manufacturer. For example, you may have a Genoa video
card that uses a Cirrus 2 chipset. If so, Cirrus 2
appears in the Advanced Configuration dialog box.

  * New video drivers are being developed continuously for
CPR and will be made available for downloading from our
BBS, with an accompanying README file.

  * If you use a bus mouse, avoid moving it while
CPR is saving your work in progress.

  Data Monitor (changed to DPROTECT)
  ----------------------------------

  * Data Monitor (DATAMON) is no longer in PC Tools Pro.
The Delete Protection functions are now in a smaller
program called DPROTECT. It is installed using the
Configure Startup Programs option in PC Config. To
configure the drives you want to protect, run Undelete
and choose Configure Delete Protection from the Options
     menu.

  * If you were using other Data Monitor options (such as
Directory Locking and Write Protection), and want to
continue using them, do not install DPROTECT.

  * If you were using DATAMON for Disk Light, replace it
with the PC Tools Pro stand-alone program, Disk Light,
which performs the same functions as the Disk Light
feature formerly in Data Monitor. You can install it
from PC Config's Startup Programs option.

  * Pseudo screen-blanking capability is now configured by
using the Idle Task feature in Task Switcher. See the
Task Switcher section later in this README file for
     more information.

  DiskFix
  -------

  * DiskFix recognizes DoubleSpace drives and will diagnose
and fix problems on the underlying hard disk. Surface
Scan and Revitalize functions do not operate on
DoubleSpace drives, but will work on the underlying
     "host" physical drive.

  * DiskFix handles up to 50,000 files and 2,000
directories if an extended memory manager (such as
HIMEM.SYS or QEMM.SYS) is installed, and there is
enough extended memory available. If there is no
extended memory, DiskFix handles up to 12,000 files and
     1,500 directories.

  DriveMap
  --------

  * If you are on a Novell network and map another SPX
drive using DriveMap from within Windows, the VIPX.386
Windows network driver might keep DriveMap from working
properly. To solve this problem, (1) Load DriveMap
before starting Windows, or (2) edit the Windows
SYSTEM.INI file to delete VIPX.386 from the NETWORK=
line. Leave the rest of the line as it is. Although
most systems are not affected, multiple DOS
applications can no longer access Novell's IPX services
simultaneously if you remove this driver.

  * If you are using the parallel port of your AST notebook
computer with DriveMap, set the parallel port to
standard mode. To do this, add the following line to
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the AST:

      ASTPORT /S

  * The BIOS of some computers, such as Compaqs, might not
recognize the parallel port of your PC if the cable is
plugged into it when you turn on the PC. DriveMap
attempts to resolve this, but if it cannot find the
parallel port, restart your PC without the cable
plugged in. Then plug in the cable, and run DriveMap
     again.

  Emergency Disk
  --------------

  * The Build Emergency Disk program does not save the
Iomega DOSLOAD.SYS driver that is used with their
removable cartridge drives. This is because Iomega uses
a unique driver technology. You can add any driver to
your emergency disk manually. Follow the directions for
adding device drivers to the emergency disk in the
Build Emergency Disk chapter in the printed manual.

  File Check (FILECHK)
  --------------------

  * If you use File Check in a batch file, it returns -253
when it finds no errors on a DoubleSpace drive. If it
does find errors, it returns its documented error level
     codes.

  Install
  -------

  * The MS-DOS 6 Multi-Config system lets you select how
your system is configured at boot time. We do not
recommend this feature for novice or intermediate
users. If you use Multi-Config, include the PC Tools
Pro drivers and TSRs you consider essential to all PC
operations in the "common section" of your
     configuration file.

  * If you are running DR-DOS or a version of MS-DOS
earlier than 5.0, Install searches your drives for the
first AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the root directory. If
Install cannot find the file, it prompts you for the
     location of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  * If you are using Direct Access, the PC Tools Pro
installation program converts only version 5.1 files
for use with PC Tools Desktop.

  * Some PC Tools files are in a different directory than
the one shown in the File List in the printed manual.
The following files are now in the \PCTOOLS directory:

      BALLS.EXE SKY.IMG CPSWORLD.FLI
      SKY.EXE STARS.EXE COMPRESS.BAT

  * The following file has been added to the PCTOOLS\SYSTEM
directory, and is the overlay file that handles Stacker
     support for Optimizer:

      OPTIMSTK.OVL

  * When you configure Startup Programs during
installation, batch files executed with a CALL command
in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file are not run. For example, if
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file contains a line like CALL
NET.BAT, which loads your network drivers, PC Tools Pro
memory-resident programs might not load in the correct
order because Startup Programs cannot find the network
drivers. If this is the case, temporarily edit your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file to load the contents of the batch
files directly, run PC Config and select the Startup
Programs you want. Save the configuration, and reboot
your machine. After you have rebooted, you can edit
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to use the CALL command.

  Memory Info (MI)
  ----------------

  * If you are using NET5.COM, MI might not identify the
     DOS 5 DOSKey program.

  Optimizer (formerly Compress)
  -----------------------------

  * To ensure data integrity, Optimizer does not attempt to
operate on network and SUBST drives, CD-ROMs, and
     drives accessible through DriveMap.

  * In case of a power failure that results in lost
clusters or cross-linked files on a DoubleSpace or
Stacker volume, run DBLSPACE CHKDSK /F or for Stacker
use CHECK /F or SCHECK /F and answer NO when asked if
you want to convert a cluster chain into a file. Then
use DiskFix to verify the integrity of the DoubleSpace
     or Stacker volume.

  PC-Cache
  --------

  * DoubleSpace, Stacker, and SuperStor drives default to
read-only caching when PC-Cache loads. Do not activate
write-caching for these drives from the user interface
     or the command line.

  PC Format
  ---------

  * If you run PCFORM /S from any drive on a DoubleSpace
system, to create a bootable floppy, for example, PC
Format might return an error stating that system files
cannot be found. This problem occurs if the DoubleSpace
driver has fixed a corrupted boot sector when it is
rebooted. Unfortunately, the DoubleSpace driver does
not replace the normal signature of the entire boot
     record.

  * To prevent such boot sector problems on a DoubleSpace
drive, run BootSafe. BootSafe detects the changed boot
record signature and alerts you. You can then select
Rebuild to repair the boot record completely.

  * Note that you cannot format a DoubleSpace drive with PC
     Format.

  PC Tools Desktop/Shell
  ----------------------

  * The Reset Window Size command in the Windows menu
allows you to reset all PC Tools Desktop windows to
their default sizes and locations. If you change the
video mode from large to small (such as from 50-line to
25-line), the open windows are reset to their default
size and position if any single window cannot fit on
the smaller screen. If you change the video mode from
small to large, such as 25-line or 50-line, the open
windows remain in their current position.

  * If you are not using delete protection (either Delete
Tracker or Delete Sentry), the Undelete command is not
available in the Tools menu. To install delete
protection, choose Configure Startup Programs in PC
Config, and then select Delete Protection. To configure
delete protection, run Undelete and choose Configure
Delete Protection from the Options menu.

  RAMBoost
  --------

  * For an explanation of the .INI file settings, and
information about using RAMBoost with MS-DOS 6 Multi-
Config, see the RAMBOOST.TXT file in your \PCTOOLS\DATA
     directory.

  * Use PC Config's Startup Programs option to load
RAMBoost, especially if the RAMBoost directory is not
     in your path.

  *  RAMBoost supports PC-DOS, MS-DOS versions 3.3 though
     6.2, DR-DOS version 6.0, and Novell DOS version 7.

  * RAMBoost can be installed on a Stacker 3.1 drive or in
a MS-DOS 6 environment only if the entire drive is
compressed. If you install PC Tools Pro on a compressed
logical drive partition, RAMBoost is installed in a
\RAMBOOST subdirectory of the root directory of the
     master partition on the drive.

For example, if you install PC Tools Pro on a
compressed logical drive E on your C hard drive,
RAMBoost is installed in C:\RAMBOOST. To run RAMSETUP
or RAMBoost with command-line options, either type the
full path name, or add C:\RAMBOOST to the PATH
     statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  * To avoid redundancy and potential conflicts, do not use
RAMBoost and Microsoft MemMaker together. RAMBoost
provides all of the features of MemMaker and has the
advantage of automatically detecting and adjusting to
changes in your system configuration, as, for example,
when you install new software. MemMaker, on the other
hand, must be run manually after each change to your
system to ensure optimum use of high memory. If you are
using RAMBoost and want to experiment with MemMaker,
first uninstall RAMBoost from your system by running PC
     Config.

  * RAMBoost works in conjunction with your memory manager
to make the best use of your memory. If you use
RAMBoost, do not use your memory manager's optimization
program because RAMBoost replaces that functionality.
If you have used the other memory optimization program
already, run RAMSETUP. RAMSETUP removes the previous
LOAD HIGH syntax and restarts the system.

  * If RAMBoost halts in Learn mode and you are using a
SCSI device such as ASPI4DOS.SYS, relocate the device
driver at the beginning of your CONFIG.SYS file. It
     MUST be executed before HIMEM.SYS.

  * If you are using RAMBoost, Windows, and QEMM 6.0, and
encounter QEMM errors, upgrade to QEMM version 6.02 or
     later.

  * RAMBoost does not strip LH and similar commands from
nested batch files that are called by your AUTOEXEC.BAT
file. To ensure that RAMBoost optimizes all memory-
resident programs, remove the LH and similar commands
     from all called batch files.

  * If you are using a Token Ring adapter, make sure your
Token Ring drivers are loaded BEFORE PC Tools RAMSETUP
runs. This allows RAMSETUP to properly protect the
     Token Ring memory addresses.

  * Certain TSRs and device drivers might not get loaded
high because of an unusually large initialization size.
You can edit your RAMBOOST.INI file to instruct
RAMBoost to try other optimization methods. We
recommend that you use the optmethod option with a -1
value. See the RAMBOOST.TXT file for instructions.

  System Information Pro
  ----------------------

  * Some older 286-class and 386-class computers might
exhibit problems with the motherboard tests. Some of
these computers use non-standard chipsets and non-
standard BIOS. Most newer machines conform to a
     standard architecture.

  * If you use a display adapter that has VESA extensions
in the on-board BIOS along with a memory-manager, boot
your computer with your emergency disk when performing
the Super VGA and Color bar tests. The memory manager
tries to use the same memory addresses as the VESA, and
although SI Pro might find the VESA extensions, it
     might perform the tests incorrectly.

  * Super VGA tests may fail on some Trident 8900C 1MB
video boards. This is because the video chipset reports
that a HI-Color DAC (digital to analog converter) is
present when, in fact, the DAC is not capable of
     supporting Hi-Color.

  * Some older BIOS might not show more than two serial
ports (COM 1 and COM 2), even though a third or fourth
might exist. SI Pro reports only ports that are seen by
     the BIOS.

  * The PCM sound test might sound unclear if you run SI
Pro from a floppy disk. This is caused by DMA channel
     conflicts.

  Task Switcher
  -------------

  * Scheduling functions are now being handled by Task
Switcher. If you have a previous version of CPSCHED
loaded in memory, remove it and use CPTASK.

  * For an explanation of the Task Switcher .INI settings,
see CPTASK.TXT in your PCTOOLS\DATA directory.

  * Some PC Tools Pro applications provide only limited
access to Task Switcher to make sure your data stays
intact during low-level disk access. You cannot use the
hot key to open Task Switcher from within the following
     applications:

      FileFix Optimizer Wipe
      Undelete Unformat PC Format
DiskFix (while fixing or checking a disk) CP Backup

  * Similarly, while Task Switcher is open and at least one
other application is in the Task Switcher list, you
cannot switch to Optimizer or Undelete. If you switch
to DiskFix in this situation, you are notified of disk
errors, but cannot fix them. To repair errors, you must
end all tasks, and restart DiskFix.

  * Do not use a batch file to unload Task Switcher. If you
do so, commands following the CPTASK /U command are not
executed. Do not delete the primary DOS prompt from the
Task Switcher list if you are using NDOS or 4DOS. Task
Switcher can be unloaded only from the primary prompt.

  * You can use the Idle Task function in Task Switcher as
a pseudo screen blanker. Specify any of the following
screen-blanker files in the \PCTOOLS directory as the
     Idle Task:

      BALLS.EXE, SKY.EXE, STARS.EXE, CPSWORLD.FLI

However, unlike most screen blankers, the Idle Task
function does not auto-cancel (detect keyboard/mouse
activity and then return to the prior task).

In addition, included in the PC Tools Pro package is a
program called FLIPLAY.EXE that you can use to run
animation files as screen blankers. To see an example,
     from the PCTOOLS directory type:

      FLIPLAY CPSWORLD.FLI

  * If you have Task Switcher configured to load
automatically at start up from your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
and QEMM 7.1s Optimize program adds the LOADHI
statement to CPTASK, do not unload Task Switcher using
CPTASK /U or from the main window. Either edit your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file to remove the LOADHI statement or
     remove CPTASK before running Optimize.

  VSafe\VWatch
  ------------
  * Some problems have been detected when loading VSafe and
using the SQUEEZE option in QEMM or the FLEXFRAME option
in 386MAX. For best results, do not use either of these
options if you are loading VSafe.

  * If you get the message "386MAX VxD error V1014: Disk Cache
or other file IO software using EMS memory" when using
VSafe with 386MAX, load VSafe using the /NE option.

  * VSafe does not display a warning when you are running a DOS
program in graphics mode (such as DESQview); instead, an
alarm sounds and the action stops. Exit from the program
and run Central Point Anti-Virus to verify the integrity of
     files.

  * If you want to use both VSafe and KEYB.COM, load VSafe
     after loading KEYB.COM.

  MISCELLANEOUS COMPATIBILITY NOTES

  Compaticard Users
  -----------------

  * Compaticards with 2.88MB floppy drives attached are
incompatible with PC Tools Pro applications.

  DESQview Users
  --------------

  * For optimum performance with DESQview, PC Tools Pro
applications disable the alternate graphic fonts and
     the graphics mouse cursor.

  * If your video display blinks when you use DESQview with
PC Tools Pro applications, add the Palette utility to
the DESQview menu and turn off the Blink Enable option.
For the best display when you run PC Tools Pro
applications from DESQview, select DESQview in the PC
     Config color scheme list.

  DOS APPEND Users
  ----------------

  * The DOS APPEND program has no effect while most PC
     Tools Pro applications are running.

  Logitech Mouse Users
  --------------------

  * The Logitech's mouse driver version 4.10 has known
compatibility problems with DOS 4.0 or later. Upgrade
to the newest mouse driver, version 6.12 or later.

  Infoselect Users
  ----------------

  * If you are using Infoselect 2.0, be sure it is loaded
before PC Tools Desktop in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  MS-DOS 6 DoubleSpace Users
  --------------------------

  * Other than DiskFix and Optimizer, PC Tools Pro
applications might report a drive size for a
DoubleSpace drive that is larger than the size reported
by Microsoft's CHKDSK program. CHKDSK makes estimates
based on known compression statistics. If there are
differences, the CHKDSK estimate is probably more
     accurate.

  * See other DoubleSpace notes in the PC Tools program
     notes above.

  Packard Bell Mouse Users
  ------------------------

  * The Packard Bell mouse driver version 4.0 is not fully
compatible with PC Tools Pro. Use the Microsoft Mouse
driver version 6.14 or later instead. (A recent
Microsoft mouse driver is usually included with Windows
     or DOS.)

  REALTEK VGA Video Card Users
  ----------------------------

  * REALTEK VGA video cards may cause distorted a screen
display in PC Tools Pro applications. The distortion is
caused by the graphic mouse. To remedy this, choose
Mouse Options in PC Config and deselect the graphics
     mouse cursor.

  SuperStor Users
  ---------------

  * SuperStor uses a non-standard boot record, which might
prevent PC Format and the Build Emergency Disk program
from finding the system files needed to create a
bootable system disk. Run PC Format and the Build
Emergency Disk program from the original boot drive
     (the one CONFIG.SYS is on).

     Example: D:EDISK /BOOT_DEV=x: (where x=original
     boot drive)

  SYSGEN Users
  ------------

  * PC Tools Pro supports the SYSGEN bridge driver versions
     3.44 and above.

  Tandy Users
  -----------

  * PC Tools Pro includes the FIXTANDY.EXE program. If you
have a Tandy system, and the Tandy Setup program
sometimes runs unexpectedly, make sure FIXTANDY is
memory-resident before you use any PC Tools Pro
application. To do so, add C:\PCTOOLS\FIXTANDY to your
     AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  Toshiba 5100 Laptop Users
  -------------------------

  * If some characters do not appear as expected when you
run PC Tools Pro applications, run PC Config. Select
Display, Text Mode, and choose OK. Then select Color,
and choose the Toshiba Gas Plasma color scheme. Choose
Save, then reboot the machine so that the changes will
     take effect.

  UltraVision Users
  -----------------

  * PC Tools Pro applications work with UltraVision fonts,
but disable the Central Point alternative "graphic"
     font set.

  * If your mouse does not function normally when you use
non-standard line modes (modes other than 80x25, 80x28,
80x43, 80x50), disable the Fast Mouse Reset option in
PC Config, or use the /PS2 command-line option when
starting a PC Tools Pro application.

  NOTES TO SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS

  VSafe/VWatch
  ------------

  * The ISCPSTSR.EXE program that Central Point Anti-Virus
uses to check the system for resident protection can now
check to see if users are running a specific version 2.x
TSR. If you specify VSafe on the command-line, and users
are running VSafe Version 1.4, ISCPSTSR returns an error
level indicating that VSafe is not running. It will only
recognize VSafe and VWatch Version 2.x.

To specify that users accessing the network use VSafe or
VWatch, use the following format in the system LOGIN
     script:

       #ISCPSTSR VSAFE
       or
       #ISCPSTSR VWATCH

If you want ISCPSTSR to check for earlier versions of
VSafe or VWatch, use the ISCPSTSR command without
specifying VSAFE or VWATCH. For more information on using
ISCPSTSR.EXE, see the PC Tools Pro in a Network Environment
     chapter in the manual.

  CInstall
  --------
  * If you are making a set of customized installation
disks and want to configure them so that users install
both RAMBoost and CPR, only RAMBoost is configured when
a user installs. Both RAMBoost and CPR must reboot the
system before installing, so it is not possible to
automatically configure both. Users need to be
instructed to install and configure CPR manually by
choosing CPR from the Configure Startup Programs option
in PC Config. See the CPR chapter in the manual for
     additional instructions.
