Question for reviewers:
HELP_DATABASE_DEVICE_PROP_GENERAL_1252
The Cluster Edition allows you to use inexpensive storage, created as a private device. A private device belongs to only one instance in the cluster. It can be used only for local user temporary databases on the instance that owns the private device. While an instance can own many private devices, a private device is owned by only one instance.
Adding a private database device
In the left pane, click the instance icon to add a private device.
In the right pane, select the Private Database Device folder.
Right click on the Add Private Database Devices wizard.
Input the device path including the device name. The device name must not already exist. Click Next.
Input the device number if you use a different number than the default. The default number depends on the number of devices already created in the cluster.
If you use a different address than the default, input a device start address. The default is zero.
Check either the box for utilizing the file system’s write through capability or for bypassing the file system cache and transfer data directly between disk and user’s buffer through direct memory access capability. Click Next.
View the summary information. Click the Preview button to view the SQL for creating the device.
Deleting or resizing a private database device
Right click on the private device.
Choose either the Delete option or the Resize option.
If you choose to delete the device, click Yes to confirm the delete when the new screen appears.
If you choose to resize the device, change the numerical size and or the unit of measurement. Click Ok.
