Managing dump devices

The Tape Dump properties dialog displays information about the type, phsyical name, and capacity of a dumpt device. These are physical database device characteristics cannot be modified after creation.

Before backing up a database, you must have a dump device available to receive the backup. A dump device is a tape or disk device for storing a backup copy of a database or its transaction log.
