I/O fencing operates only on devices, not on partitions. Sybase recomments that you enable I/O fencing to help guarantee the interity of your data.
When creating a cluster or upgrading a cluster Sybase Central will check whether the master device or any other devices you create is SCSI-3 PGR compatible. If it is not, then a dialog will appear asking you to continue or not. Also you have the option to ignore future messages.
There is new VCS functionality enhanced i/o fencing in this version of the cluster server.
If UAF is not running or I/O fencing is not enabled a message dialog will appear. I/O fencing is not compabible when there is more than one instance on a host. You have the option of disabling the “Check I/O Fencing capability” from the Preference page of the Properties menu. To access the server preferences, Right click on the server icon and scroll to Properties, then choose the Preferences tab.
Sybase Central will check for I/O fencing compatibility when you:
create a cluster
add an instance
add a database device
