1. Quick Start
--------------

Important notes:

   1) This version of jcg880-MODIO is compatible with Microsoft Windows 98 and
      Microsoft Windows 95.

   2) If your system already contains jcg880-MODIO and you want to re-install
new version, first uninstall Modio (See Uninstall Procedure), and only
then proceed to install new version.

To install jcg880-MODIO for the first time:
-------------------------------------------
a) Turn your PC off, and remove the power cord.

NOTE: SOME PCI 2.2 MOTHERBOARDS KEEP THE SLOTS POWERED EVEN WHEN THE
PC IS TURNED OFF. TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE MODEM AND YOUR PC, REMOVE
	THE POWER CORD.

b) Plug in the jcg880-Modio card into a free PCI slot.
c) Restart the system.
d) When the system detects the card and asks for disk, press "Browse"
and select the JCG880-MODIO install diskette in the floppy drive or
   CD-ROM drive.
e) JCG880-MODIO will be installed.

-----------------------------
2. How to verify installation
-----------------------------

To verify that JCG880-MODIO is installed correctly, follow these steps:

 a) In Control Panel - System/Device Manager/Sound,video and game controllers:
    Check for 1-3 JCG880 devices:
1 JCG880 Voice Modem Wave device
(Optional - with Unimodem V only.
If you need unimodemV capabilities, you have to install Microsoft's UnimodemV).

Double click on the JCG880 PCI Sound Chip.
    Choose Modem property page.
Press the "Test Now" button and make sure that you got "Tested OK" message.

 b) In Control Panel - Modems: check for your modem.

 c) In Control Panel - Multimedia: check "Show volume control on the task bar".

 d) If no Volume Control is installed, install it from the Control Panel with
"Add New Software" - Windows Setup/Multimedia.

 e) With Volume Control unmute Wave Device and ensure it is working by
playing any .wav file (e.g. from Control Panel - Sounds).

To Check that JCG880-MODIO is working properly:

 a) Create a configuration (Direct to port or Modem) of Hyper Terminal.

 b) Run Hyper Terminal.
Type ATI1, ATI2 or ATI3 and make sure you receive the Modem IDs.
Dial any accessible phone number, and see that that phone rings.
Dial to another modem (ATDTxxx or via the dial button of the TAPI
interface) and see that a modem session is established.

If you have successfully connected, then Modio has been successfully
    installed.

----------------------
3. Uninstall Procedure
----------------------
a) Go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs
b) Select "Modio JCG880 Uninstall"
c) Click on Add/Remove Button

JCG880-MODIO will be uninstalled.
You may now install a new version of JCG880-MODIO from diskette or CD-ROM.

-------------------
4. Update Procedure
-------------------

To update your JCG880-MODIO drivers, uninstall previous drivers (see above
procedure) and restart your system. When the system detects the card and asks
for disk, press "Browse" and select the updated JCG880-MODIO diskette in the
floppy drive, or updated JCG880-MODIO CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.

New JCG880 MODIO drivers will be installed.

---------------
5. Known issues
---------------

5.1	When using the following applications/online services, select the
appropriate modem name from the following modem list:
	1. AOL (America Online) - "Hayes Compatible (Default)"
	2. Juno - "Generic 33600 modem".
	3. BitWare - "Rockwell based voice modem"

5.2 On some systems, while installing the Windows95 OSR 2.1 for the first time, the
      system hangs (SCR # 904).
Workaround: Use a newer version of Windows95, or contact your vendor for a special
driver version that does not present this behavior.

5.3 Recording master control in Volume Control Applet -> Recording does not move.
This is deliberate behavior, since the only function of this slider is to
enable Mute All checkbox. (SCR #584).

5.4 With some microphones, the recorded sound might be too low. To increase volume, open
the Windows "Audio Mixer" application, click on the "Playback -> Advanced" button,
and set the "20 dB gain" check box. (SCR #534).

5.5 If for some reason, the installation of the drivers could not be completed
successfully, a "PCI device audio " Error Icon will appear in Control
      Panel\System\Device Manager\Other devices.
If one tries to 'remove' it, the PC will stuck. (SCR #515).

Workaround: in the above case and other cases, do not try to remove such PCI Audio
drivers. Instead, choose Properties\Update Driver Tab and enter the correct
    	installation directory for this driver.

5.6 JCG880-Modio cards are not compatible with Main Boards of type "Octek Rhino 10 and 6VX".

5.7	If you have MSPhone program installed under Windows 98, you MUST uninstall it BEFORE
you install the modem driver. Non conformance to this directive will cause the modem
to fail after rebooting. Microsoft does not support MSPhone application anymore, as you
can see on the following web page:
	http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q193/9/06.ASP

------------------
6. Troubleshooting
------------------

If your modem does not work as expected:

6.1	If ERROR, NO DIALTONE or a similar message is received:

	(a) Check whether JCG880-MODIO is connected to the line.
	(b) Use a telephone handset to make sure that the line is
active and that there is a dial tone.
	(c) Check to see if the line is a PBX line or a direct analog
phone line. You may need to dial 9, before the actual
		desired telephone number (i.e. ATDT9,123-4567).
If, after dialing 9, the modem still cannot detect the PBX
dialtone, try typing ATX3 before dialing.

NOTE that PBX lines typically can only support V.34
		rates (33,600 bps, 28,800 bps, ...) and NOT V.90
		rates (49,333 bps, 50,666 bps, ...).

6.2	If dialer application (i.e. Hyperterminal) does not detect modem:

	(a) Check whether HyperTerminal is configured to the right port.
You can find the JCG880-MODIO COM port number in
 		Control Panel/Modems/Properties.
If not, press disconnect and change the port that the dialer
		is accessing.

6.3	If the typing response of the terminal is very slow check that
   	there is no interrupt conflict.

6.4	If the Audio Codec Device IRQ is above 7, Try configuring it IRQ 5
   	or 7

6.5	Try setting other DMA channels for the Audio Codec device
